Project Description

Standard Staff

Written Rotation
CC Breakdown

Use this trait variation if you need the Stunbreak(e.g. Slothasor)

Use this trait variation if Scholar Uptime is low

Situational Skills

– Use “Feel the Burn!” over Frostbow for small hitboxes otherwise Frostbow is the most optimal choice in most scenarios.

Standard Staff Big Hitbox

Strong on Big Hitboxes but mostly overshadowed by F/A Scepter Warhorn and F/A Dagger/Warhorn. Sadly Anet overdid the Meteor Shower nerf way too much so its the lowest of the 3 Tempest builds on Big Hitbox. On small Hitbox it’s Revenant level of DPS so don’t play it there

General Tips

  • Use your Lava Font to clear Orbs once they spawn in the second phase. With normal group buffs you should be able to oneshot them with one Lava Font. You can also dedicate some time to it in the second split to the get the arena completly clear of Orbs if they start to overwhelm you.
  • Use your Ice Bow to help contribute to the Breakbar, if youre on Air in your rotation you can also use Gust

Encounter specific Traits and skills:

  • Make use of Burning Retreat to drop poison quick and safely
  • Swap to Air everytime Slothasor goes into CC so you can burst Sloth with Air Overload, Ice Bow, Meteor Shower and Overload Fire
  • Use your Ice Bow to help with Crowd Control.
  • Tempest is also a good slubling candidate. Try to proc the Gale Song before taking the mushroom so you have superspeed in slubling.
  • Encounter specific Traits and skills:

  • Swap in your Assassin Staff and Backpack specified in the “Gear Variant” section
  • Use your Ice Bow to help with Crowd Control.
  • Swap to air before he starts his burn phase so you can do the most amount of damage possible with Air OverloadMeteor ShowerOverload Fire and Ice Bow
  • Encounter specific Traits and skills:

    • Use your Ice Bow to help with Crowd Control.
    • Don’t start casting your Meteor Shower right before Samarog does his knockback or shockwave attack since it will lead to a major DPS loss

    F/A Scepter/Warhorn Big Hitbox

This is one of the 2 main builds for Big Hitbox bosses, with Standard Staff being the other one. It had the best damage of all builds on Big Hitboxes right now, but it also has one of the hardest rotations in the game.

    Personal DPS
    Crowd Control (CC)

    F/A Scepter/Warhorn Small Hitbox

Together with F/A Dagger/Warhorn its the best build Tempest currently has for Small hitbox, but if you compare it most other builds from other classes it’s not great and should not be played unless you are an expert Tempest player and have no other high DPS class available.

    General Tips

    • Dont cancel/forget any skills accidently, with a rotation this complex you can easily press your buttons too fast and skip skills
    • Pay attention to the video to correctly prioritize skills
    • Aim your Phoenix behind the target so it hits up to 12 times
    • Record yourself(if you can, else try to look during a run) and pay attention to where you could have moved for more Seaweed Salad uptime
    • Cast Lightning Orb from max melee range so it hits more often
    • Swap in your Keep Construct Gear specified in the “Variants” section
    • Help with CC by using Cyclone and if needed Tidal Surge

    F/A Dagger/Warhorn Big Hitbox

All 3 Tempest builds right now are viable on a big hitbox and do the most damage from all classes.

    Difficulty
    Personal DPS
    Crowd Control (CC)

    F/A Dagger/Warhorn Small Hitbox

On small hitbox the damage is extremly low compared to other builds and classes so I wouldn’t recommend using this build on small hitboxes.

    General Tips

    •  Cast Lightning Orb from max melee range so it hits more often
    •  Try to memorize your Wildfire cooldown so you can swap into and out of Fire without even having to look if Wildfire is off cooldown
    •  Record yourself(if you can, else try to look during a run) and pay attention to where you could have moved for more Seaweed Salad uptime

    Fractal Tempest

With the recent change to Staff, F/A Scepter/Warhorn is also a great build to run in fractals. In the end you should run what you should feel most comfortable with but for the highest minmax you should run Scepter/Warhorn for small hitbox bosses.

Berserker Staff with Night and Force Sigil for Nighttime Fractals

Berserker Staff with Impact and Force Sigil for Daytime Fractals

Berserker Staff with Serpent Slaying and Force Sigil for Nightmare Fractal

Berserker Scepter with a Force Sigil

3x Berserker Warhorn with Impact, Night, and  Serpent Slaying Sigil for Daytime Fractals, Nighttime Fractals and Nightmare Fractal respectively.

    Optimal:

Bowl of Seaweed Salad + Powerful Potion of X Slaying

    Budget:

Bowl of Asparagus and Sage Salad + Powerful Potion of X Slaying

This will vary depending on the Fractal. Below is a table specifying which Potion to use in which Fractal. Some Fractals have enemies in them that aren’t covered by the potions we recommend, but overall you will have the right Potion against important Bosses and mobs.
