Mesmer Builds 2017-06-24T17:35:20+00:00

Project Description

Berserker Chronomancer

Core Weapons

Berserker’s Sword with Concentration Sigil

Berserker’s Shield, Sword and Focus with Force Sigil

Situational Weapons

Berserker’s Scepter with Concentration Sigil

Minor Gear Changes

Mesmer is the only power class in the current meta that loses DPS by going for 100% crit chance. This is due to having to use both commander’s leggings and an exotic back piece. The loss of ferocity is great enough to make power more effective than precision.

Full Mighty Infusions

You can use a single toughness infusion which will put you on 1085 toughness. Use this when you just need more toughness than the other Mesmer to pull aggro.

Resilient Infusion

If you’re worried about warriors interfering with the boss’s aggro, due to gaining 400 toughness from their revive trait, then take three knight’s pieces putting you on 1426 toughness.

1 Knight’s Ring and 2 Accessories

Major Gear Changes

If there is a rev in your sub-group who is pulsing facet of nature then you can use more offensive stats. Facet of nature gives you 33% boon duration so you can drop leadership runes and the commander’s leggings. By using scholar runes you get a lot more ferocity, making precision have higher value per stat point than power. This means that it’s more beneficial to use some Assassins’s gear instead of Berserker’s.

Full Assassins Armor with 6 Scholar Runes and an Assassins’s Accessory

The most defensive build possible, designed to tank Vale Guardian enrage with ease.

Nomad’s Sword with Concentration Sigil

Nomad’s Shield, Focus and Sword with Water Sigil

Minstrel’s Boots and the rest Nomad’s Armor with 6 Durability Runes

Full Minstrel’s Trinkets

Plate of Mussels Gnashblade combined with Bountiful Sharpening Stones

Easy to acquire for alt accounts, you can just use exotics and buy everything straight off the trading post. No need to farm HoT maps for runes or commander’s pieces.

Berserker’s Sword with Concentration Sigil

Berserker’s Shield, Sword and Focus with Force Sigil

Full Berserker’s Armor with 4 Traveler Runes and 2 Platinum Doubloons

Berserker’s Amulet and Rings along with Exotic Berserker’s Earrings and Backpiece using Platinuum Doubloons

Chocolate Omnomberry Creams, Fried Golden Dumplings or Bowls of Nopalitos Sauté combined with Bountiful Sharpening Stones

Written Rotations
CC BREAKDOWN

Domi Recall

This is the easiest and most commonly used of the three rotations, when starting out you should always learn this one first. Use this rotation for every encounter and only experiment with others once you feel more comfortable playing the class. One of the main advantages of this rotation is the easy access to shared distortion, on a relatively low cooldown, from all of your signet skills. This allows you to invuln key attacks, protecting your team and enabling them continue DPSing without having dodges interrupt their rotations. However, you do sacrifice some alacrity, domi has the lowest alacrity uptime when compared with the other recall rotations. It requires 1.8 avengers to maintain perma alacrity on your sub-group, assuming they stand within all of your wells. Personal DPS on the training golem while assuming realistic buffs is 12.6k  with sword and 11.1k with focus.

Illu Recall

Illusions has very high alacrity uptime, because of master of misdirection and phantasmal haste. The reduced cooldown of continuum split allows you to cast well of recall and well of eternity more frequently, whereas phantasmal haste increases the attack rate of phantasmal avengers. Only 1.53 avengers are required to maintain perma alacrity on your sub-group, assuming they stand within all of your wells. Master of misdirection will give you different continuum split timings, which can be both an advantage or a disadvantage depending on the situation. You’ll have to experiment with this part yourself to see what works best for you, because your group DPS will effect when certain boss attacks or invuln phases happen. By dropping domi you aren’t able to provide invul on every signet cast but you can still share invuln with distortion. Which is useful when there’s a powerful attack with a long cooldown, such as sloth’s deadly spores. Personal DPS on the training golem while assuming realistic buffs is 12.1k with sword and 10.5k with focus. A larger proportion of your damage comes from phantasms with this rotation compared to domi, if you aren’t able to maintain 3 phantasms you should consider using domi recall instead.

Domi/Illu Recall

In the 22/02/2017 patch, well of action gained an additional second of base quickness which made domi/illu recall possible. This rotation combines the high alacrity uptime from illu recall with all the damage traits from the illu and domi trait lines. By dropping inspiration you lose the ability to share distortion, so it shouldn’t be used on bosses like VG or Gorseval, which have attacks that you want to distort to increase your team’s DPS. Also by losing illusionary inspiration quickness uptime without continuum split is very low. Domi recall remains the only build that can do a delayed continuum split rotation efficiently. Personal DPS on the training golem while assuming realistic buffs is 14.1k with sword and 12.1k with focus, putting it well above the other two. When playing this rotation make sure that you watch your signet of inspiration cooldown carefully. You want to be able to cast it three times before the next continuum split, and it just barely fits. Always wait until signet of inspiration is fully off cooldown before starting your next continuum split, otherwise it will have a negative impact on your rotation later on.

Note: Mimic rotations are intended to be used in squads that only have a single chrono.

Domi Mimic

This rotation has the lowest alacrity uptime, requiring 2.88 avengers to give perma alacrity on a sub-group assuming they stand within all of your wells. Personal DPS takes a large hit because so many avengers are required to make up for the low alacrity. If you’re the only mesmer in the raid and are unable to bring timewarp, because more cc is needed, then you must use a mimic rotation to keep quickness. On some bosses such as Vale Guardian or Gorseval, where you can distort attacks, domi mimic is the best because it can allow your team to ignore mechanics and keep DPSing.

Illu Mimic

The easiest and most commonly used mimic rotation. It shouldn’t be hard to pick up if you already know how to play illu recall.  It requires 2.41 avengers to maintain perma alacrity on your sub-group, assuming they stand within all of your wells. Recommended to use in groups with 7-8 players, because with careful positioning you can maintain very good quickness uptime without the need for a second mesmer.

Domi/Illu Mimic

Generally you shouldn’t use this rotation over illu mimic, because the lack of illusionary inspiration makes it much harder to maintain quickness on more than 4 allies at once. It requires 2.41 avengers to maintain perma alacrity on your sub-group, assuming they stand within all of your wells. You should probably use this only in a group that gains very little DPS from alacrity and has only 6 players. Otherwise another rotation will fit the role better. Also note that since this build doesn’t have inspiration so you lose the ablitity to share distorion to your team.

Quickness cap and Time Warp

There’s a hidden cap on the number of quickness stacks, which was reduced in the 18/10/2016 patch, from 9 stacks down to 5 stacks.

Each skill applies 1 stack of quickness every time it hits you. For example, tides of time gives you 1 stack of quickness as it flies away from you and another when it comes back. Another example is timewarp, which gives you 1 stack ever other second for a total of 6 Stacks over the whole duration.

Once you have 5 stacks of quickness, any stacks applied will now be checked. Starting from the back of the queue, where the most recent stack sits, the game compares the duration of each quickness stack. The first stack to have less duration than the new stack is removed from the queue and the new stack added to the back. If none have less duration than the new stack then it is discarded. There is once exception to this rule though. The first stack in the queue, which is currently ticking down, cannot be replaced.

Below you can see the domi recall rotation with timewarp, a timer was added which starts when the first stack of quickness is applied.

The rotation was broken down frame by frame, following each stack of quickness and recording it in a spreadsheet until timewarp ends.

The process was then repeated, this time ignoring any quickness gained from timewarp.

From this you can see that timewarp will give a minimum of 5.5 seconds of quickness to each player. A fairly significant increase when compared to the 1.7 seconds it gave before the 22/02/2017 patch.

Domi recall is always used here because it allows you to distort green circles and stay melee the whole fight.

For an elite skill, moa is preferred as it will let you solo break the blue guardian. Due to the long cooldown you may have take it in turns with the other mesmer going to blue/red. However, in beginner groups you might have more success with gravity well because of the lower cooldown.

When tanking Vale Guardian, try to keep the boss perfectly still, only move him during later phases when it’s required.  Blurred frenzy, echo of memory, deja vu and illusionary riposte should be used instead of dodges whenever possible – since they won’t cause any movement. He’s auto attack is very powerful, so if you think it will help you survive, don’t be afraid to bring some extra toughness.

If you’re team is having trouble controlling seekers, consider bringing a focus. It can be especially helpful in the last phase where there’s one more spawning in the middle.

You can either solo both portals, as shown in the video below, or split them with the other mesmer.  Doing one portal each is ideal, as it will allow for more quickness on the group. However, you’re better off soloing both than missing one.

Equip the master of manipulation trait in chaos, if you’re soloing, to reduce blink’s cooldown. Otherwise there’s a good chance it will be on cooldown from the first portal.

Domi recall is the optimal rotation for this fight because you can distort Gorseval’s slam attack.

One of the mesmers (generally the tank) should bring focus pull the spirits in and help them get cleaved down.

If your team is insta breaking, coordinate moas with the other mesmer so you don’t use both in the same phase.

Not much toughness is needed for this boss, because his auto attack is very slow and can be side stepped easily.

If you’re not confident at distorting slams, try experimenting with illu recall. It can give you a very smooth feeling rotation if your group DPS is high enough.

Domi/illu recall is the best here since there isn’t anything to distort.

One mesmer should bring focus to pull thugs and arsonists.

Play domi recall if you’re still learning and can’t perform the other rotations yet.

Illu recall can give you a smoother rotation than domi recall if the group’s DPS is good.

Ideally one mesmer plays domi recall and the other illu recall. With the right DPS both mesmers can use their elite on different break bars, and still continuum split it.

Watch the enrage timer, when it reaches x:29 left the slublings will spawn. Try to place your focus in the middle to group them up and let druids pull them into the group.

Bring mantra of recovery and time the heal to cleanse fear after each breakbar ends.

When sloth does his deadly spore attack, stand in the centre of his hitbox, use distortion and jump. This will block most of the projectiles from hitting your team. On domi distortion will be on cooldown when he does his second spore attack, if you continuum split but with illu it should be off cooldown every time.

Recommended to use domi recall here because it’s the easiest rotation to recover with if you get sacrificed.

If you get an expanding bomb, while casting illusionary riposte jump repeatedly to stop the counter attack from triggering.

When running through the cave be cautious of the mushroom emperor’s pull. Either dodge on instinct, or bind a ‘look behind’ key so that you can watch for the animation. Also, you can spam shatters for a small heal if needed. Make sure you always have a dodge or distortion ready once you reach the final water fountain, otherwise the mushroom charger will delete you.

On the towers, try to place temporal curtain on the edge so that the area can be captured faster.

Shatter to cleanse conditions if you get feared, or right before pulling enemies to deduce the chance it gets blinded.

Domi recall is preferred here because it allows you to distort the boss’ jump attack and reduces moa’s cooldown enough for it to be used every phase.

Can take decent into madness (fall damage trait in chaos) for extra safety.

Play domi recall with moa if you expect dps to be high enough for only one breakbar per phase, or gravity well if you expect two.

Save your blurred frenzy to counter her blurred frenzy, and made sure she isn’t aiming it at the rest of your team.

Try to pull in adds with temporal curtain.

This boss can feel like a golem with good groups, allowing you to play domi/illu recall for more DPS. However, it can get really messy… Use domi recall if you’re not confident that it will be a clean kill, because that rotation is much easier to recover with.

In normal mode this is just a 22 million hp golem, so use domi/illu recall if you can play it.

Mesmers often take claim for this fight, try keeping control of the middle four squares, only saving claim when soldiers or scouts are nearly on you.

Otherwise use domi recall because it’s the next best dps.

Challenge Mode

The same as normal mode but with more moving and more hp.

Blue squares can spawn anywhere, so try to claim as much as possible.

Assuming your team can jump then domi/illu recall is good here. If your not confident then play domi recall and try distort some of the tremors.

Communicate with the other mesmer to make sure you don’t use moa on the same breakbar.

During the split phases your pull should be the last cc on Rigom. Place your temporal curtain inside of Samarog’s hit box, because it’s easier to aim than pushes, Guldhem’s shield won’t be removed if he dies too far away from the center.

Bring well of precognition for safety so that you can block Deimos’s explosion attack. Useful in the event that oil completely covers the middle.

Domi recall is good here because it can share distortion for the boss’ slam attack, but dropping well of recall has a significant impact on alacrity uptime. Domi/illu recall has better phantasmal avengers which helps make up for the reduced alacrity, however it lacks the ability to share distortion.

If you’re not tanking then bringing a scepter on your second set can give you higher DPS (depending on the tactic).

Challenge mode

The ward no longer spawns in the middle so you must use well of precognition every time.

Deimos has more hp so phases take longer, this means more hands and pressure on the kiter. Be prepared to equip more toughness gear to keep aggro because the kiter may ask to bring more than normal.

Disclaimer
  • For a lot of fractals you can drop Well of Recall  for Well of Precognition  to block some attacks instead of dodging them or keep it to give more alacrity
  • Try to invuln using Signet of Inspiration  some of the most dangerous attacks or block them(if possible) with Well of Precognition
  • The Portals  in each fractal are worth doing and some can save a lot of time if done properly
  • Temporal Curtain  is one of the best skills ingame for pulling mobs together, use it to kill mobs faster
  • Use Blurred Frenzy  off cooldown as this is your “Main Dmg” skill and it is a DPS increase to intrerupt autoattack for it
